The popularity of slate and cedar

“We have a growing demand for DaVinci, which is a polymer plastic made to look like a shake or slate shingle,” Adam says. “It’s produced by a Kansas City company – DaVinci Roofscapes. They’ve really taken over the market.”

DaVinci shakes have the appearance and textures of slate and shake shingles. But because they’re polymer plastic, they’re substantially more durable than real cedar and slate.

Their shakes are fire-resistant, weatherproofed, and able to withstand wind gusts up to 110 mph.

“They provide protection from the threats of strong wind, hail, and maybe even bomb cyclones, to give you more peace of mind,” Adam says.

DaVinci shakes have a 50-year guarantee with a lifetime warranty. Its roofing tiles require virtually no maintenance, repair or replacement. They’re 100% recyclable, lowering your carbon footprint.

DaVinci slate options

With its stone texture and chiseled edging, the DaVinci slate is a replica of a natural slate.

“All their slate tiles are modeled from actual slate for authenticity and natural beauty,” Adam says. “They resist fading, rotting, cracking, and pests. And they have a lifetime limited material warranty.”

DaVinci slate shakes come in three options:

• Single-width slate tiles are available in 12 in. width with half-inch tile thickness and can be installed at 6 in., 7 in., 7.5 in. and 8 in. exposure. DaVinci’s VariBlend assures continuous color fluency from tile to tile to enhance the natural slate-like appearance.
• Multi-width slate tiles are available in 12 in., 10 in., 9 in., 7 in. and 6 in. widths with half-inch tile thickness. It can be installed at the same exposure as the single-width above. Unlike single-width slate tiles, DaVinci’s multi-width tiles can be installed straight across or in a staggered pattern.
• Bellaforte slate tiles are 12 in. wide and half-inch thick, with a half-inch exposure. They feature leading-edge tabs that secure tiles in place to increase durability and performance. The interlocking tiles create a built-in rain gutter. This reduces waste and cost while the appearance of the authentic slate tile remains.

Davinci composite cedar options

DaVinci composite cedar shake tiles offer the beauty of natural cedar shakes in three different options. The tiles have realistic wood tones that range from fresh cut to more weathered cedar. They come in single-width and multi-width tiles like slate tiles.

“Their thick construction with deep grooves and grain patterns look like traditional cedar shakes without breaking your bank,” Adam says.

• Single-width cedar shake tiles are 9 in. wide with 5/8 in. tile thickness. They can be installed at 9 in. or 10 in. exposure for an even, uncluttered, look. They’re available in rustic colors ranging from brown to weathered gray.
• Multi-width cedar shake tiles are available in five different widths – 9 in., 8 in., 7 in., 6 in., and 4 in. They are 5/8 in. thick and are installed at 9-5/8 in. or 10-5/8 in. exposure. They can be laid straight or in a staggered pattern to give your roof a more natural appearance.
• Bellaforte cedar shake tiles are available at 12-5/8 in wide and half-inch thick, with 12 5/8 in. exposure. Their leading-edge tabs secure tiles in place to add durability. • Select cedar shakes offer the craftsmanship and authentic appearance of natural, hand-split cedar shakes. Select cedar shakes are based on authentic wood profiles that create the most realistic “traditional” appearance available.
• Hand-split cedar shakes offer the authenticity of natural, hand-split cedar shakes. They’re available in 8 in. and 10 in. width, 5/8 in. thickness, and 18 in height. They can be installed at 6 in., 7 in. or 8 in. exposure.

Color options

“DaVinci has 50 standard colors,” Adam says, “and if they don’t have the color you want, they’ll create it to your specifications.”

Their VariBlend technology assures visual variations from tile to tile to create an authentic look with increased longevity.

“DaVinci shake roofing is now a staple in our residential roof inventory,” says Adam, who recently managed roof jobs on 10 homes in the Linden Estates neighborhood.
