Humble Beginnings, Bright Future

McCoy Roofing is a trusted, family-owned and operated business. Although the company got its start in 2007, the values that guide how the McCoys conduct business were part of this family much longer than that.

What makes McCoy Roofing special began many years before the company was founded.

John McCoy did well as a regional corporate sales manager. He and wife Tracy were new parents when they were asked to take over the McCoy family cattle ranch in eastern Colorado. That’s where the couple raised their five children.

John learned the value of hard work from his father, who learned it from his. John and Tracy carried it forward with their children. From one generation to the next, the McCoys learned the importance of a hard day’s work.

Once old enough, the couple’s four boys – firstborn Beau and triplets Adam, Lee and Bart – managed the ranch while John sold residential roofs around the country.

The McCoys moved to Kansas, where the brothers and sister Annie excelled academically and athletically. Family time and memories were more important than material possessions.

“That’s just how we were raised,” says Adam McCoy, who heads McCoy Roofing today.

As young adults, each son traveled with their father on business trips. Each learned the roofing trade. Each inherited their father’s sales skills.

Eying new horizons, some moved to Omaha. Within a few years, all the McCoys were here. John, his sons and son-in-law Landon Wrinkle decided their expertise would be best used to form their own roofing outfit.

Each McCoy took a different role in the company. After John and Tracy retired, the boys took over with the expressed goal of being good stewards of what had become a symbol of their family’s values.

As guideposts, the boys draw on the fair and honest ways John and Tracy modeled and instilled.

The reason we’re fair people and do what we say we’ll do is because it’s what we’re called to do,” Adam McCoy says. “We treat people the way we want to be treated. That’s why our motto is ‘Always do the right thing.’

It’s what the McCoys learned early. It shows in how they operate as business partners and how they deal with subcontractors and clients.

Doing business with integrity is our foundation. Integrity means doing the right thing even when no one’s looking, Adam says. That goes back to my dad starting this company. Having a well-earned reputation for fairness meant everything to him. To us, too.

The McCoys see themselves as throwbacks to how people did business and treated each other generations ago – when one’s word was one’s bond. They’re active in the community.

Little wonder that McCoy Roofing scores high in customer satisfaction.

“Much of our business is through word of mouth,” Adam says. “A good name and reputation go a long way. You do a good job on one project, people talk and word gets around to their friends and family. That’s how we get business.”

And even though they keep it quiet – no bragging here – this good-neighbor company donates work to families who need new roofs or siding but can’t afford it.

All of us try engage with the community in a positive manner,” Adam says. “It’s great to get involved and to give back to others from our bounty.
